ib information evening   on november 3rd at 6:30pm, we will be holding an information evening for grade 11 & 12 students in the international baccalaureta programme and their parents.

picture retakes friday   if you’ve lost your student card you can bring in $5 and have a new picture taken. If you’ve purchased a photo package and wish to have a retake, you must bring in the photo package. you do not need to bring in your proofs if you haven’t yet ordered pictures but want a retake.

cafeteria   Thursday’s special is kiebasa, perogies and cole slaw.

spirit week   thursday:  costume day, pumpkin carving and costume contest at lunch
friday:  pj day with pillow fight and games in the caf.

safe grad   Safe Grad Committee will be selling kernel's popcorn on Friday at lunch outside the cafeteria.  A bag cost $2 and comes in four flavours: white cheddar, buttersalt, kettle corn, and caramel.

art house films   a new film is screened every wednesday at 4:30 in our theatre. There is a brief introduction by mr. white, and a group discussion will follow.

minneapolis arts trip   The Minneapolis trip has been approved and there are only 7 seats left on the bus!  they have to be filled by friday or the trip will cancelled. Those students enrolled in first or second semester Visual Arts, Graphic Tech, or Photography courses and are in Grades 10-12 can see Mrs. Teichroew or Mr. Cichosz for information. Deadline for submitting a deposit to go is Friday, October 30th.

ultimate   Congratulations to the Westwood varsity ultimate team for placing first in the Hold Back the Snow tournament this weekend!  This was the first time Westwood clinched the champion spot in twelve years of ultimate at Westwood.  The JV team also had a great Sunday, winning all their games and increasing their overall rank.

girls hockey   Good Luck to our girls hockey team who take on Portage today at 3:30pm. Girls are to be dismissed for the afternoon and are to get any assignments that they will be missing from periods 5 and 6.
There will be a team meeting today at 12:03 pm.

volleyball   A huge congratulations to the JV girls volleyball team at the St. Mary's tournament this weekend. The girls played great right from the start finishing second in pool play to Selkirk, the #1 team in the province. The girls played amazing in playoffs defeating Miles Mac & St. Mary's both 2-0 on their way to the final where they got a rematch against Selkirk. With some great passing, tough serving and amazing defence the girls took the match 15-13 in the third set to win the Championship!  It was a great team effort all around! Jayda & Melissa were named tournament all stars and Jordan was named the tournament MVP.  Congratulations to the varsity girls volleyball team for making the consolation final at their home tournament this past weekend.

pep rally   it’s friday, october 16th during 3rd period. there will be shortened classes in the morning:
p1   8:30-9:20
P2   9:20-10:10
P3   10:11 – 11:00

grade level meetings   any grade 12 students who weren’t at the grade level meeting yesterday must pick up an information sheet in the office.

heart & stroke   on monday after school and tuesday in the morning, we will be selling cookies and hot chocolate with all proceeds going to the heart and stroke foundation. 50 cents for a cookie, one dollar for hot chocolate, or 1.25 for both.

special language credits   Any student wishing to write the special language credit exams needs to see Ms. Sheldon. 

cafeteria   thursday’s special is pizza.

parent teacher conferences   they take place october 26th. parents can go online to book appointments.

elections    Monday October 19th is election day in Canada - Westwood will be participating in a student vote. Be on the lookout for campaign materials and information over the remainder of the week and be ready to vote at the polling station by the front doors on Monday October 19th from 730am to 4 pm.

wear purple   today, people are asked to wear purple to remember the young people who have taken their lives due to homophobic bullying.

post-secondary presentations   sign up outside of mr. fewer’s office to attend presentations by u of w, u of m and rrcc. you can also sign up for the university fair at sturgeon heights on november 5th.

halloween dance   it’s october 29th. tickets must be purchased in advance and will be available for $10 in front of the caf at lunch and after school.

volunteering   Any students looking for volunteer work and who would like to get a jump start on collecting their hours are asked to see Mr. Fewer for opportunities around the community.

girls hockey   Just a reminder that the girls have dryland today at 3:30 in the fitness centre.

volleyball   congratulations to the varsity girls volleyball team for beating sturgeon last night in three straight sets.

cross country   Congratulations to our Cross Country Team on an outstanding effort yesterday at the Provincial Championships at Spruce Woods Park.  Under ideal running conditions the Team was led by Devin who placed 52nd overall out of a field of 225 runners!  Way to go Warriors!

curling   the curling teams will begin practicing Thursday October 22nd.  Curler should see Mr. Stairs for details.

boys hockey   congrats to the boys for their 3-1 win over miles mac. all team members to room 111 at noon.
